Thousands of high schools across the country are participating in “Poetry Out Loud,” a recitation competition that encourages high school students to memorize and perform great poems. The University will host the competition, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, March 24, in the Redfield Proscenium Theatre of the Church Fine Arts Complex on the Reno campus.

Silvia Baraldini moved from Italy to the United States in the 1960’s and began a life of political activism at the height of the Civil Rights Movement. In 1983, she was convicted and sentenced to serve 43 years for helping to free a female Black Panther activist from prison. The Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery will present “SILVIA,” a one-hour rough cut of her story at 6 p.m., Feb. 22, at the Nevada Museum of Art.

The Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery is launching a loaned art program this semester, to exhibit original work by art department students throughout campus. Marjorie Vecchio, gallery director, hopes ‘Art in Offices’ will introduce talented artists to campus guests, faculty and staff, and other students.
