Nevada Humanities announces new chair and board of trustees officers for 2008
Nevada Humanities announces its officers for 2008, led by Dr. James H. Frey as the new chairman of the Board of Trustees. Nevada Humanities is a nonprofit organization that creates and supports projects throughout the state of Nevada that broaden perspectives and encourage intellectual curiosity. As the chair of Nevada Humanities, Frey also will serve on Nevada’s Commission for Cultural Affairs, which advises the Department of Cultural Affairs on matters pertaining to the preservation and promotion of Nevada’s cultural resources.
The former dean of the College of Liberal Arts and emeritus professor of sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Frey is a prolific scholar. He has written, co-written or edited several books, including Gambling: Socioeconomic Impacts and Public Policy. He joined the faculty at UNLV in 1974, and founded and directed the Cannon Center for Survey Research. In addition to his academic career, he served on a number of community boards including United Way of Southern Nevada, Henderson Parks and Recreation, and Las Vegas American Red Cross. Frey also served on the executive committee of the Western Humanities Alliance, is a past president of the Rotary Club of Green Valley and has been honored by Rotary for his work in promoting the Ambassadorial Scholarship Program.
The new vice-chair of Nevada Humanities is Art Wolf of Wolf Consulting in Las Vegas. Other officers include Cyd McMullen of Great Basin College in Elko, Ana Douglass of Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, and Bruce Bledsoe, a retired journalist, of Reno.
