Two recently awarded grant projects address this need for thoughtful community discussion.
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension received a grant of $5,000 for a program entitled Policy Education and Civic Engagement (PEACE). This curriculum project for middle school teachers touches on such topics as political philosophy, history, current Nevada issues and civic knowledge. The object of the PEACE program is to encourage critical thinking, broaden student perspectives, and increase political tolerance by supporting a diversity of opinions.
