Campus network to go temporarily quiet evening of Dec. 21

By: University Communications

December 21st, 2007

The University’s campus network will be unavailable from 7-10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21.

The purpose is to provide the University with a redundant route to networks off campus during an extended outage planned by System Computing Services in January to install a second optical node in their northern data center.

Friday’s network outage will include: email, www.unr.edu (a temporary Web page stating that the network will be down for maintenance will be noted), file storage and cluster computing. Also affected will be any mobile email device, such as Blackberries, Smartphones, that receives mail from the University’s Microsoft Exchange Server.

This outage should coincide with a planned Web-CT maintenance period on Friday evening, Dec. 21, and grades should all have been submitted by Friday at 10 a.m.

If you have any questions regarding this planned outage, please contact Information Technology at 682-5643.
