Core Humanities sponsors casino surveillance presentation
Casino surveillance and the Victorian novel may seem like odd bedfellows, and yet one might say that every surveillance agent is a Dickens fan at heart.
Aaron Santesso, assistant professor of English and Fitzgerald Distinguished Professor of the Humanities, will look at modern casino surveillance as a system that attempts to make the individual instantly knowable and trace the history of parallel attempted systems in the 18th and 19th century literature, philosophy and science. His presentation, “Dickens in the Casino: Surveillance, Empiricism and the Novel,” is scheduled Oct. 1, in the Schulich Lecture Hall.
