Director, research analyst with Sanford Center speak on KNPR, discuss aging in U.S.
Larry Weiss, director of the Sanford Center for Aging, and Teresa Sacks, health research analyst with the center, were guests on Nevada Public Radio’s KNPR’s State of Nevada program August 31. They joined the director of a center for integrative health care at Johns Hopkins and the author of a book on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Together the group discussed the aging U.S. population and problems posed by a shortage of health-care workers trained in geriatrics. Sacks and Weiss are two of the authors of the recently published report Elders Count Nevada: Key Health Indicators for Nevada’s Elders (2007), which indicates that Nevada is facing particularly acute problems because it ranks low in terms of medical professional per capita and has had one of the fast-growing populations of elders.
