Professional development courses of interest to faculty/staff

Extended Studies offers professional development short-courses to increase knowledge and skills in a wide range of topics, keep on the cutting edge of the latest trends and issues, and hone existing talents for career advancement. The following courses may be of interest to University faculty and staff.

Courses are offered on the main campus and at the University’s Redfield Campus in south Reno.

“Cooperative Government: Understanding Intergovernmental Relations” — This one-session professional development course will be held Friday, June 1, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the University’s Redfield Campus, 18600 Wedge Parkway, Reno. Course fee: $185, includes lunch.

June 1-29, 2007

“Essentials of Fundraising Professional Series” — This five-session professional development series may be taken as a series, or as individual courses. Courses are held at the University’s Continuing Education Building, 1041 N. Virginia St., Reno. Discounts are available for AFP members. Course fees: $120 per course, or $475 for the series. Courses are:

• June 1: Starting a Development Program, Friday, 9 a.m.-noon
• June 8: Annual Giving, Friday, 9 a.m.-noon
• June 15: Individual and Major Fundraising, Friday, 9 a.m.-noon
• June 22: Board and Volunteer Development, Friday, 9 a.m.-noon
• June 29: Corporate and Foundation Grant Seeking, Friday, 9 a.m.-noon

“Social Intelligence: Taking EQ to the Next Level” — This one-session professional development course will be held Tuesday, June 5, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the University’s Redfield Campus, 18600 Wedge Parkway, Reno. Course fee: $185, includes lunch.

June 7-8, 2007

“Managing and Supervising People” — This two-session professional development course will be held Thursday-Friday, June 7-8, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day at the University’s Redfield Campus, 18600 Wedge Parkway, Reno. Course fee: $300, includes lunch and book.

June 15, 2007

“Strategies for Handling Workplace Violence” — This one-session professional development course will be held Friday, June 15, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the University’s Continuing Education Building, 1041 N. Virginia St., Reno. Course fee: $185, includes lunch.

June 21, 2007

“Managing Successful Negotiations” — This one-session professional development course will be held Thursday, June 21, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the University’s Continuing Education Building, 1041 N. Virginia St., Reno. Course fee: $185, includes lunch.

July 10, 2007

“Critical Skills for Supervisors: Managing Today’s Workforce” — This one-session professional development course will be held Tuesday, July 10, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the University’s Continuing Education Building, 1041 N. Virginia St., Reno. Course fee: $185, includes lunch.

Aug. 7, 2007

“Effective Discipline and Documentation” — This one-session professional development course will be held Tuesday, Aug. 7, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the University’s Continuing Education Building, 1041 N. Virginia St., Reno. Course fee: $185, includes lunch.
