Fungisai Nota, a doctoral candidate in the resource economics department at the University, is this year’s recipient of the Thornton Peace Prize, an annual award that given to an individual or group from the campus community who exemplifies the philosophy that force is not an acceptable means of settling disputes.

Nota is from Zimbabwe, Africa, and has made it a goal to study and learn how peace in his local community, home country, and around the world may be achieved.

Nota has formalized a way to settle disputes and advocate peace in Africa. He promotes peace in the Reno community by serving on the board of directors for Northern Nevada Hopes, is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the needs of individuals and families infected or affected with HIV/AIDS.

Nota also assists students with conflict resolution, and researches dispute settlement and rural development issues. He is writing his dissertation on international inter-dependencies with hopes of aiding foreign communities and increasing effective conflict resolution.

Nota is a graduate student, teacher, and researcher who truly exemplifies someone who makes peace not only a goal, but a reality. He promotes peace and harmony among students, faculty, and community members.

He is a role model to the incoming generation of students and will contribute to the future of African, African-American, and global peace.

I know there is a nice person in you Nota. I am more than proud of what you have achieved. Keep it that way and never let anything lead you astray from who you are.

Nota is associated with a very noble cause and I wish him all the best.
Nota has been rewarded for what he has done.
Surely, this kind of activities should be encouraged in order to aware people of what is happening around them. This will create attention in the masses and bring people at the same platform against AIDS.
    Keep it up, Nota.
