Items Discussed:
- The remodel of the Virginia Street Gym is moving forward and Scott will be reviewing seating for accommodation purposes.
- Lyle will fill us in at a future meeting about the purchase of evacuation chairs for University buildings and what the progress is on that. We are interested in the prioritization of buildings, who will receive training on the chairs in each building and about the coordination with emergency personnel on site during an event.
- Mac will ask Ron Zurek if he could send a representative to the UDRC to talk about a university wide emergency preparedness plan along with the coordination of city and county info.
- Scott Youngs will be out for the month of April, but is interested in promoting a brown bag regarding recreational opportunities for people with disabilities in the fall.
- Mac reported that she is working on Jose Feliciano being the headliner for Disability Awareness Month 2007. His visit will support the diversity theme of this year’s activities. Also in the works is an accommodation fair for all disability groups. Last year it was focused on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and involved over 700 participants. She is also investigating an equestrian showcase of riders with disabilities at the UNR Equestrian Center.
- J.J. Johnson is interested in an initiative that will bring disability to the forefront not just during October, but throughout the year. We spoke about brown bag themes as well.
