Bureau of Mines & Geology faculty win top awards for papers
The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology research geologist Peter Kyle House received the William R. Boggess Award at the 2006 American Water Resources Association Annual Conference in Baltimore, Md. The AWRA awarded House for his paper “Using Geology to Improve Flood Hazard Management on Alluvial Fans” which was published in the December 2005 issue of the Journal of the American Water Resources Association.
The award is given to authors of papers published in the Journal of the American Water Resources Association who best describe or analyze a major problem or aspect of water resources from a theoretical, applied or philosophical standpoint.
Several bureau faculty members also received the 2006 Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists Publication Award for their collaboration on a paper.
The recipients of this award are Craig M. dePolo, research geologist at the NBMG, Steve Boron of American Geotechnical, John W. Bell, engineering geologist at the NBMG, and D. Burton Slemmons, professor emeritus of geology and geophysics.
The paper is entitled “Latest Quaternary fault movement along the Las Vegas Valley fault system, Clark County, Nevada.” The paper was published in the Environmental and Engineering Geosciences Journal in May 2006.
