Journalism Week encourages journalists to think, invent, act; Feb. 28 - March 1
Journalism educators will convene ‘Think Invent Act – a conversation at the Reynolds School of Journalism,’ Feb. 28 – March 1 to discuss technology, ethics, and the future of journalism. This event is part of the inaugural Journalism Week, sponsored by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation in association with The Fred W. Smith Ethics Seminar Series.
“The School of Journalism is exploring the impact of ideas, trends, technology and public participation in journalism,” said Rosemary McCarthy, academic chair for the Reynolds School of Journalism .
“This event encourages communications professionals, faculty, and students to reinvent the practice of journalism from the classroom to the professional arena.”
Charles Lewis, distinguished journalist in residence at American University in Washington, D.C., will deliver the keynote Fred W. Smith Ethics Seminar Series 2007 titled “Under Siege: Truth, Journalism and an Informed Citizenry.”
Lewis founded the Center for Public Integrity, a nonprofit, nonpartisan investigative reporting organization which has published 300 investigative reports, 14 books, and has received 35 national journalism awards.
Ed Lenert, professor and Fred W. Smith chair of critical thinking and ethical practices, and Larry Dailey, associate professor and Donald W. Reynolds chair for media technologies have attracted journalists from ESPN, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, NBC News and MSNBC.com, and the Associated Press for this event.
“The conference will interest professionals who are reinventing the future of journalism and who want to share their enthusiasm for the future of the industry with students,” Lenert said. “This is a rare opportunity for students to meet with journalism innovators, ethicists, and technical visionaries.”
