A seismological research team from the University is finding ways to make precariously balanced rocks talk. In so doing, they are unlocking valuable scientific information in assessing seismic hazards in areas throughout the West.

We have had some feedback about the ongoing vote on a possible change to the University bylaws regarding grievance procedures indicating that there is some confusion. In addition, we have received very few votes to date on this important aspect of the bylaws and the vote is scheduled to terminate tomorrow, Feb. 23.
Therefore, the executive board of the Faculty Senate has decided to extend the vote until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
Journalism educators will convene ‘Think Invent Act – a conversation at the Reynolds School of Journalism,’ Feb. 28 – March 1 to discuss technology, ethics, and the future of journalism. This event is part of the inaugural Journalism Week, sponsored by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation in association with The Fred W. Smith Ethics Seminar Series.
Results are in from the first comprehensive, University-wide survey, conducted September 2006 to measure the views of faculty and staff.
“We received a mixture of responses that show we do a lot of things very well,” said Eric Herzik, political science professor and chairman of the team that created and administered the survey. “But, it also indicates areas in which performance should be improved, so this survey will help us implement strategies to address those particular areas.”
