University Disability Resources Coalition
Meeting Minutes
December 12, 2006 Meeting

Items Discussed:

  • Introduced the brochure that we are using in Lawlor to assist disabled patrons with regard to seating and other services. Asked the committee to provide additional feed-back and corrections.
  • Scott Youngs voiced a concern about providing seating for disabled patrons at the VSG for home Volleyball matches. Athletics will see how it can accommodate wheelchair patrons.
  • The restroom remodel at the VSG is in progress. Dennis Miley from Facilities will oversee this project. KH will bring an update to the January meeting.
  • Lyle is waiting on list of furniture needs for classrooms. The furniture will be stored/ delivered as needed by the campus movers. Disability Resource Center will determine where the furniture/equipment are needed.
  • Brown Bag luncheons have been suggested for the spring to heighten disability awareness. This could be a continuation of what we did this fall with Disability Awareness Month.
  • Blinking lights have been installed at the cross walks on Sierra and Virginia. There is still one more to be installed. Lyle will keep us posted on progress.
  • Are evacuation seats planned in each new building project? Yes. Currently there is only one in the Business School building. There is a need for additional seats /chairs in all buildings on campus.
  • A suggestion was made by Bill Oberding to create a card that asks students and faculty for input on the facilities and if they are accommodating their needs. We will discuss further.
  • It was mentioned that Mackay Stadium needs better signage for disabled patrons and more training for usher staff.
  • A facilities review will be conducted by the Nevada Advocacy and Law Center. Scott Youngs will introduce us to Jack Mayes.
  • Meeting concluded at 1:15pm.
