Details
The 2007 – 2008 IEG program will fund projects that promote excellence in instruction and assessment. The funding for the program will come from the Vice Provost’s Office and the Library.
Program Objectives: The Instructional Enhancement Grants Program provides grants from a few hundred to several thousand dollars to enhance any aspect of the instructional mission of the university. This includes the traditional classroom-based modes of instruction as well as other modes, such as tutoring, electronic distance education, directing graduate students, advising, etc.
For example, projects may include development or acquisition of instructional materials, the introduction of new teaching techniques, instructional research, outreach or assessment. See the Excellence in Teaching website for sample proposals and a list of funded projects that illustrate the range of possibilities.
We encourage collaborative projects and ones addressing one of the themes of the Excellence in Teaching Program.
Eligibility: All faculty on continuing appointments of >0.5 FTE are eligible to apply.
Application: A description of the proposed project including a budget must be submitted by 5:00 PM on February 28, 2007, using an on-line application available at (http://teaching.unr.edu/ETP/IEG/index.html).
Proposals must include: (1) title, (2) description of the project, (3) statement of purpose, (4) potential impact, including the number and type of students involved (undergrad non-majors, undergrad majors, grad students, community members), (5) relationship of the project to academic plans and goals of the department, college and/or university, (6) final product of the project (e.g., instructional materials, presentation, formal assessment) and (7) budget, with budget explanation.
The budget must include an itemized list of all expenses as well as the time period for which the funds will be used. IEG does not fund faculty stipends. Consumable supplies are the responsibility of the department and will not be funded. Salaries for undergraduate graders or graduate research assistants are rarely funded and only if well justified. We encourage matching resources from other entities: this evidence of support and sustainability will strengthen the proposal.
The Instructional Enhancement Grants Committee will review all proposals to determine funding. This committee includes faculty members from each college, many of whom have been recipients of Instructional Enhancement Grants in previous years, and representatives from the Core Curriculum Board, the University Library, Teaching and Learning Technologies, Excellence in Teaching Program, and University Assessment.
Schedule: Successful applicants will be notified by April 6, 2007. Projects must be completed by May 15, 2008.
Questions should be directed to Lesley Sheppard lesleys@unr.edu, Barbara Millis millis@unr.edu, or to a member of the IEG committee.
