CBS Reno highlights research at University

By: Jill Stockton

December 21st, 2006

As part of their sweeps week coverage, when television networks are competing for national ratings, KTVN-CBS Channel 2 Reno devoted a series of stories and significant air time to research at the University. The three-part series profiled three of Nevada’s top researchers.

Researchers profiled included: Sudeep Chandra and Zeb Hogan, two of the world’s most knowledgeable fish researchers; and Graca Almeida-Porada a widely respected adult stem cell research professor in the department of animal biotechnology; and Wendy Calvin, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter color imager/context camera science team member and geological sciences professor.

Bill Brown, KTVN nightly news anchor, interviewed the three researchers in depth to learn more about the cutting-edge research they were working on here at the University.

“I don’t think anyone in the Truckee Meadows understands the depth or the caliber of the cutting edge research being done by members of the University of Nevada community,” Brown said. “ I found myself truly impressed by the work and the dedication of those involved and the potential life changing aspects of their work. And after 30 years in this business I am not easily impressed by just anything.”
