Call for Proposals for University of Nevada, Reno Workforce Development Awards

Please note: this solicitation internal to University of Nevada, Reno and is separate from the Statewide Space Grant Workforce Development solicitation.

Introduction

The Nevada Space Grant Consortium, as a participant in the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program, is accepting proposals for in-state workforce development programs directed at the aerospace science and engineering enterprises. Individuals from University of Nevada, Reno may submit proposals ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 for six-month projects. The Nevada Space Grant program expects to fund up to three awards under this solicitation.

  • Date of Announcement: December 12, 2006
  • Proposal Due Date: January 22, 2007

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible applicants for a NASA Space Grant Award must be (1) a faculty member in good standing of the University of Nevada, Reno (2) be in good standing with the Nevada Space Grant and NASA EPSCoR Programs (3) have the approval of (a) the department chair, (b) the dean, and (c) the Office of Sponsored Projects.

Background

The NASA Space Grant Consortium for Nevada is working to expand opportunities for Americans to understand and participate in NASA’s aeronautics and space programs by supporting and enhancing science, engineering education, research and outreach programs. We currently offer opportunities throughout the Nevada System of Higher Education to participate and become educated in NASA’s programs and enterprises through the following general programs:

  • Student scholarships and fellowships
  • Competitive research awards.
  • Competitive higher education awards

The Nevada program currently supports workforce training, education and research in topics that include astrobiology, astronomy, materials research, life support systems designs, satellite construction and deployments and robotics development.

Specific areas that are being explored/targeted at University of Nevada, Reno but are not limited to:

  • Autonomous mobile robotics
  • Autonomous collaborative robotics
  • Integrative biomimetics
  • Space systems design
  • Software Engineering
  • Human-Computer Interaction
  • Computer Vision
  • Infrared, and visible spectroscopy
  • Ultraviolet, and x-ray spectroscopy
  • Imaging spectroscopy
  • Atomic physics, and dynamics of astrophysical plasmas

All of the Nevada’s Space Grant consortium programs are to contribute to NASA’s overall mission and are to be congruent with NASA’s new Vision for Space Exploration.
