Dr. Donald Roberts named School of Medicine OB/GYN department chair

Donald Roberts, M.D. has been selected to lead the University of Nevada School of Medicine obstetrics and gynecology department as the department chair. A graduate of the University of Nevada School of Medicine, Roberts assumes this new role after nine years of practicing within the OB/GYN department and serving as an assistant professor.

“We are delighted Dr. Roberts has accepted the department chair position,” says Vice Dean James Lenhart, M.D. “We are confident that Dr. Roberts’ experience and expertise—particularly in maternal fetal medicine—will lead the OB/GYN department to great success.”

Since his return in 1997, Roberts has served the School of Medicine in several capacities including acting as interim chair for the OB/GYN department, serving as division director for maternal fetal medicine, and as the OB/GYN associate residency program director.

“I am enthusiastic about my new role as chair,” says Roberts. “I look forward to helping make our OB/GYN residency one of the top 10 programs in the U.S.”

Prior to his return to the school as a faculty member, Roberts completed a fellowship program in maternal fetal medicine at the University of California San Diego.

From 1993 to 1995 Roberts worked with Dr. Joe Rojas in private practice in Las Vegas. He completed his internship and residency with the School of Medicine’s OB/GYN department in Las Vegas. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine and earned his bachelor of science degree from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.

Roberts is married to Dr. Lisa Roberts who is also an alumnus of the University of Nevada School of Medicine. They are the parents of twins and reside within the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Roberts was raised in Las Vegas and is a graduate of Western High School.

As the state’s only public medical school, the University of Nevada School of Medicine has been meeting statewide healthcare, educational, and clinical needs since 1969.

The School of Medicine encompasses 16 clinical medical education departments, including Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Internal Medicine, and Surgery, as well as ten nationally-recognized departments within basic science including microbiology and biomedical engineering.

As the largest multi-specialty healthcare focus within the state, the School of Medicine employs more than 185 doctors who both teach and practice medicine throughout Nevada. The school’s statewide faculty physician practice groups have a combined 25 different medical specialties with seven physician practice offices located in the Reno-Sparks area and five physician offices located in Las Vegas.
