Women learn leadership development in academia
All female Nevada System of Higher Education faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to participate in the Nevada Network Conference, “Meet Nevada: Building on the Strengths of Women in Higher Education,” from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 20 at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino Exposition Hall, A.
This leadership development event identifies strategies for women in higher education to realize their professional goals, network effectively and influence public policy through advocacy, research, and programs.
President Milt Glick will open the conference. In a morning keynote speech, Donna Phillips, director of the American Council on Education Office of Women in Higher Education, will discuss connectivity and leadership development for women across states.
The afternoon address, “What Might Be: Envisioning the Future of Women in Higher Education,” will be delivered by Judith Prince, vice chancellor of the Greenville campus for the University of South Carolina Upstate and chairperson of the executive board of the ACE Network of Women in Higher Education. Conference panelists are drawn from Nevada universities who will speak to relevant issues which women in higher education experience daily.
For more than 25 years, the Office of Women in Higher Education has demonstrated its commitment to representation, leadership development, and service. This is the first conference organized by the Nevada Network, one of 50 state networks under the auspices of the American Council on Education Office of Women in Higher Education. Tamara Valentine, Nevada Network state coordinator and driector of the University’s Honors Program, and the entire Nevada Network Planning Committee represent female administrators from all NSHE campuses.
The Office of Women in Higher Education ACE Nevada Network Conference is sponsored by University of Nevada, Reno; Truckee Meadows Community College; Desert Research Institute; Western Nevada Community College; Great Basin College; Nevada State College; Community College of Southern Nevada; and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
