Kate Berry

Kate Berry, associate professor of geography, was recently elected as the new president of the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers, an organization of over 600 professional and academic geographers in eight western states and two Canadian provinces. She assumed duties in September.

Kurt Esser, associate athletic director, has been named to the board of directors for the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators. He is one of 10 members of the board for this association of close to 1,000 members from all athletic divisions. He will assist with continuing education and membership.

Lynda Wiest, associate professor of education, received a Nevada Women’s Fund “Women of Achievement” award (honoree), May 2006. Wiest was also elected secretary of the national organization, Women and Mathematics Education, 2006-2008 term.

Amy Ellwood, professor of family and community medicine, was named president of the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers, 2003-2005. She was also named a civilian member, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Use of Force Board, August 2004-Sept. 1, 2007.

Leonard Weinberg, political science professor, has been appointed a senior fellow at the National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism in Oklahoma City. Weinberg is also a senior fellow at the National Security Studies Center at the University of Haifa in Israel. He is senior editor of Democracy and Security, a journal published by Taylor & Francis and jointly sponsored by the National Security Studies Center at Haifa and the University’s Justice Studies Center.
